One of the biggest trends in home design lately has been incorporating large, view-enhancing windows. Being close to nature has become important to homeowners this past year and choosing the right windows can help you accomplish that.

If you’re looking for windows that elevate your home design, here are some options to consider.

1. Arched

Arched windows feature a half-moon pane of glass above a rectangular picture window. This style is commonly seen in colonial-style homes, French provincial homes, and Tudors.

This style is perfect for allowing more light into your space while also creating an interesting focal point. The arched pane is low maintenance, and the lower panes can feature a variety of opening styles, such as casements and awnings.

2. Bay

If you’re interested in creating a luxurious, formal aesthetic in your home, then bay windows are a must. From the outside, they look picturesque and elegant. And on the inside, they allow for some extra square footage.

You can use the expanded space created by the windows for a plant ledge, extra seating, storage, and to display family picture frames or books.

3. Cottage

Cottage windows are marked by their short rectangular top panel and tall lower panel. The top panel features a grid pattern separating the pane into multiple blocks. This is a quintessential style feature of cottages, farmhouses, and some styles of Tudors.

Usually, the lower panels can open in some capacity while the top panels are purely for allowing in light and aesthetic appeal.

4. Bow

Although they look similar to bay windows, bow windows bring their own unique benefits. Unlike bay windows, bow windows don’t typically open and don’t have a hexagon shape. Their frames create a bow-like appearance, curving out of the wall like a half-moon.

Bow windows are also typically larger than bay windows offering more interior space and letting more sunlight in.

5. End Vent

While aesthetics are important, we also need our windows to be functional. End vent windows allow us to have both. On either side of a rectangular picture window are two end vent panes that can open.

End vents make it easy to welcome a nice breeze into your space without compromising your feelings of security or privacy. They also add an interesting focal point to the room and can be customized to suit your home’s design.

Which Type of Window Glass is Best?

Not only do you want your windows to be elegant and visually appealing, but they also need to be energy efficient and durable.

It’s important to avoid single-paned glass and always opt for at least double-paned or triple-paned. This ensures your heat and cool air aren’t wasted through a glass that is too thin. You may also want to consider low e-coatings to improve insulation as well as tempered glass for strength and durability.
