The kitchen is the heart of the home. It’s where most of us spend our time when we’re not working. When it comes time to invest in renovating your kitchen, there are lots of options to choose from and routes you could take. Here, we’re sharing the five upgrades that make a huge impact on your kitchen design and functionality.

1. Stone Countertops

There’s nothing more luxurious in a kitchen than stone countertops. They range in price and aesthetic, but even the most neutral and affordable stonework makes an impact. In a previous blog post, we went through everything you need to know about stone finishes, and which are best suited to the kitchen.

Remember to research the type of stone you choose and how to maintain it. With proper maintenance, most stone countertops are extremely durable and timeless.

2. Tile Backsplash

Backsplashes play a functional role as well as an aesthetic one. They protect your drywall from water damage and strains from sauces while also contributing to the kitchen’s design. There are hundreds of tile options to choose from, so take your time browsing.

One of the most classic and versatile types of tiles are subway tiles. You’ve likely seen them everywhere, and for good reason. They pair nicely with most interior design styles, and they come in a variety of colours and patterns.

3. Updated Lighting

If you still have fluorescent lighting strips in your kitchen, it’s time to step into the future and make a change. There are so many spectacular lighting options that don’t make you squint or avoid taking photos.

If you’re looking for simplicity, basic pot lights embedded into the ceiling are perfect. To make a statement, we recommend hanging pendant lights that compliment your home’s style.

4. New Appliances

When you love to cook, there’s nothing like heating up a brand-new oven and stovetop. Not only is it a joy to cook with, but it up-levels your kitchen’s overall aesthetic.

There are several types of oven trends we’re seeing lately, from retro and colourful to efficient and stately. It’s best to choose appliances that share the same material or are the same colour. This applies to countertop appliances as well- don’t forget to upgrade your 20-year-old toaster.

5. Upgraded Cabinetry

Sometimes, the cabinetry that comes with a home isn’t the most stylish or durable. If you’re looking to make a statement with your kitchen renovation, opt for highly functional cabinetry that will stand the test of time.

Look for soft close drawers and doors, plywood over particleboard, and opt for extra drawers instead of extra cabinets if you have the space!
